The present study explored the potential of a large coastal area on a large Greek island, in terms of:

• its contribution to a healthy tourism development
• its contribution to meeting specific needs of the entire city, such as the need for green spaces.

Finally, the regeneration of this space and its habitation creates additional needs and results in the requirement of communal and public spaces. The possibility is therefore being investigated that these spaces have a service radius larger than the area under study, so that they do not satisfy only the permanent residents and visitors but a large part of the city and respond to needs arising from the role of area as a Metropolitan Park.
